When she was a teenager, Selina Thompson thought that Missy Elliott and her afro-futurist-dancing-up-the walls-fisheye-camera-taking-up-space genius might be the blueprint for her freedom. A decade later, she’s seeing what today’s teenagers have to say.
The Missy Elliott Project invites young women of colour to imagine a RADICAL NEW FUTURE! Already successfully rolled out in four cities, DDF is delighted to team up with award-winning artist Selina Thompson to bring this project to Dublin.
In this live performance and digital exchange project young people will work with an expert team of choreographers, performance artists, musicians and designers to make a VR experience with all the energy and excitement of an old-school Missy Elliott video, while meeting new friends and imagining an exciting and limitless world.
Part of the year-round DDF Extended programme, this project explores the lived experience of young women of colour in Dublin.
The Selina Thompson company previously participated in Open Studio - a creative lab exploring live and digital performance-making for younger audiences. Open Studio was produced by Dublin Dance Festival and Live Collision.
